Calendar Building an Accessory Dwelling Unit on your property in Portland. Community Events Description The ADU Class: This class is intended for homeowners interested in building an ADU on their property. For most homeowners, building an ADU is not simple or straightforward--it's essentially the job of being a land developer--- a job that most of us know have ever done, or will likely ever do again. Think of this class as an on-ramp to the process of designing and building an ADU. This class will open your eyes to the spectrum of content that you'll execute and manage in the course of designing and building and ADU. It is intended to make the whole process and project better by helping you understand the ADU design, management, and building process. By the end of the class, you will better understand the design/permit/build process, which will save you significant time and money, and will result in a better product--an ADU that will work well for your particular situation. In the process of designing and building my ADU, I have become passionate about ADUs generally. I am not a general contractor nor an architect trying to pitch my services to you. I am a homeowner and environmental professional with a passion for ADUs and a lot of practical information to share about them. The class is full of extremely high-value information that you can't find anywhere else. You'll Walk Away from the Class Understanding… The design, permitting, and building process Relevant green building concepts, approaches, and certifications Financing, rebates, incentives, cost-saving design/build measures, contracts Resources, references and contacts to help you design and build your ADU (including ADU regulations, local building material sourcing recommendations, a budget sample, contract types and more). http://pdxadu.blogspot.com/p/adu-class-for-homeowners.html 2018-02-03 09:00:00.0 2018-02-03 17:00:00.0 0 0 0

Calendar Let's Talk Climate: The Clean Energy Jobs Bill Community Events SEIU Local 49 Union Hall : 3536 SE 26th Ave The Clean Energy Jobs Bill: This Year's Top Priority Let's Talk Climate starts its third season on Tuesday, February 8 with a 7:00 p.m. public program concerning the Clean Energy Jobs bill, which Governor Brown has said is a 'must pass' for the 2018 legislative session. Come find out why this bill is top priority and how it makes a significant effort to address climate change in Oregon. The event will be held at the SEIU Local 49 Union Hall, 3536 SE 26th Ave., Portland. Panelists include Nancy Hamilton, Co-Chair of the Oregon Business Alliance for Climate, on ways that Oregon's businesses will benefit from this bill; Dylan Kruse, Policy Director for Sustainable Northwest, on benefits to the forestry industry, agricultural sector, fisheries, and rural Oregon; and Shilpa Joshi, Coalition Director of Renew Oregon, on the current status of the bill in Salem. With a wide range of supporters from many elements of Oregon's economy, this bill would generate income from fees for excess CO2 generation and put the funds toward the development of sustainable energy and clean jobs. Investments will be made in new job training and low-cost clean energy improvements; in less air pollution, reducing carbon pollution as our economy shifts to become more energy-efficient. This event is free and open to the public. Co-sponsors are Oregon Environmental Council and 350PDX. The SEIC Union Hall is located immediately south of SE Powell Blvd, across from Cleveland High School. Carpooling recommended; limited bike and car parking is available; TriMet bus #9 runs along Powell.
