To support young children’s rights to participate fully in their communities, there is a need to address the serious gaps in access to early childhood education (preschool). Multnomah County programs and citizens acknowledge that gaps are often generated by systemic inequities that leave a deficit image of the child. The first step to creating equitable access—acknowledging children as capable of making meaningful contributions to our city—is to invite communities across Multnomah County and the larger Portland metro area to engage in conversations about addressing opportunities to serve all children.
The Early Childhood Council (an interdisciplinary collaboration across PSU's 60+ faculty that work with children 0-8 years and their families) is hosting a a free event for students, faculty, and community members. A nationally known keynote presentation and expert with national key note speakers and panels focused on bring early childhood education to all children in Multnomah county. The Keynote and panel presentation are in the morning and open to all.
