Powell Butte Nature Park Powell Butte Nature Park (Outer Southeast) - trail work Saturday, October 13, 9:00 AM-noon Join Hands On Portland and Portland Parks Recreation to improve trails on Powell Butte. No experience necessary! Wear long thick pants, a long-sleeved shirt and sturdy shoes. Bring a water bottle, rain gear and sunhat. Instruction, tools, gloves, water and coffee/tea provided. Participants should be at least 8 years old and accompanied by an attentive adult. (Participants unaccompanied by an adult should be at least 14 years old.) Volunteers will be walking up to 5 miles during the event, so arrive before 9:00 AM to make sure you meet up with the group. All projects start at 9:00 AM. Meet at: Main Entrance, south of Powell Blvd. (Hwy 26 East) on SE 162nd. Tabor Park relies on the generous support of our volunteers to keep the park safe, clean, and accessible to all. Scroll down to see how you can help make a difference. Weed Warriors Every last Saturday from March through October, 9am-12pm, FMTP Weed Warrior volunteers meet at the Mt. Tabor Visitor Center (near the amphitheater) to remove invasive plant species and restore native habitat to Mt. Tabor Park. All tools are provided. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes, long pants, and long sleeves to protect yourself as you work alongside trees and bushes, including thorny blackberry. If you have a favorite pair of work gloves, bring those as well (though we have gloves you can borrow). Bring your own water bottle to stay hydrated. We'll provide a mid-work snack. Volunteers of all ages are welcome to participate. However, any volunteer under 16 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone; and children under 8 must be in the company of an adult for the duration of the service project.
